12. Edward Thomas3 Barrass (Thomas S2, Edward1)(191) was born Kingwood Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ April 10, 1832. Edward died August 27, 1905 in Clinton, Hunterdon Co, NJ, at 73 years of age.
He married Mary Ann Pittenger Kingwood Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ, October 23, 1852. Mary was born Kingwood Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ June 13, 1834. Mary(192) was the daughter of David Pittenger and Liverah Godown. Mary died May 21, 1908 in Clinton, Hunterdon Co, NJ, at 73 years of age. Edward and Mary Ann (Pittenger) Barrass lived from 1882-1905 at 7 East Main Street in Clinton, New Jersey. For some reason, the deed to this home only lists Mary Ann Barrass as the owner, but we can tell from the census records that she and Edward (as well as a few other family members) lived here until his death in 1905. Mary (Edward not named on deed) purchased the property at 7 East Main St in Clinton, New Jersey from Michael C and Mary Mulligan on July 7, 1882 and sold it to Belle Williamson on October 12, 1905. They were the sixth owners of the house which was built in 1840.
Edward Barrass is found in the American database of Civil War soldiers. He enlisted as a private on 8/14/1862. Enlisted in Company G, 15 Infantry Reg. New Jersey on 8/25/1862. He received a disability discharge from this company on 5/20/1864 in Washington DC. He reenlisted as a private on 9/5/1864 . Enlisted in Company B, 38 Infantry Reg. New Jersey on 9/09/1864. He mustered out of this company on 6/30 /1865 City Point, VA.
In the 1860 census Baptisttown, Kingwood Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ page 722, Edward (age 28) is recorded with Mary Ann (age 26), Sarah (age 4) and David (age 2). He has the occupation of a farmer.
In the 1880 Clinton, Hunterdon Co NJ page 249, Edward (age 48), is recorded with his wife Mary (age 45), David (age 21), Harry (age 11), Blanche (age 9) Jenny (age 2) and George Morehouse (age 18). Edward is noted as being a laborer.
The 1895 New Jersey State census records Edward and Mary as living with Harry age category 20-60(a son?) and Blanch and Julia age category 5-20 ( daughters or granddaughters?) At this time they lived on Main St in Clinton.
In the 1900 census Main Street Clinton, Hunterdon County, New Jersey page 30, Edward (age 68), is recorded with his wife Mary (age 65). They have been married for 48 years, had 10 children with 4 living at the time of the census.
Edward Thomas Barrass and Mary Ann Pittenger had the following children:
14 i. Livera4 Barrass was born Kingwood Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ January 1854. Livera died before 1860.
15 ii. Sarah G Barrass(193) was born Kingwood Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ July 1856. She married Richard R Boss in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, January 22, 1874. Richard was born in New Jersey July 1852. (See Richard R Boss for the continuation of this line.)
16 iii. David P Barrass was born Kingwood Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ 1858. In the 1900 census 28 Charles Street, 6 Ward Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey page 195, David (age 40) is recorded with his daughter Lillian (age 16). David is noted as being married for 19 years and is a RailRoad flagman.
17 iv. Harry W Barrass was born in Clinton, Hunterdon Co, NJ 1869.
18 v. Blanche S Barrass was born in Clinton, Hunterdon Co, NJ 1871.
19 vi. unknown Barrass(194) was born about 1873. Unknown died July 27, 1873 in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, at less than one year of age.
20 vii. Jenny M Barrass was born in Clinton, Hunterdon Co, NJ 1878.
