1. Asher¹ Atkinson was born in New Jersey 1770. Asher died January 29, 1857 Flemington, Hunterdon Co, NJ, at 86 years of age.

He married Agnes Mattison in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, January 11, 1799. Agnes was born in New Jersey 1778. Asher is listed in Snell's book on page 265 as a Hunterdon County Tax Collector from 1820 to 1839.

Asher was a Quaker converted to Methodism. He donated the land for the first church.

In the 1850 census Raritan, Hunterdon, New Jersey page 76, Asher (age 80) is recorded with Agnes (age 71) and Ann Groff (age 39). All births are NJ.

Asher Atkinson and Agnes Mattison had the following children:

2 i. Jeremiah² Atkinson. Was a schoolteacher

3 ii. Hannah Atkinson was born in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey 1815. Hannah died about 1864. She married John Horner in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, February 12, 1848. John was born in New Jersey 1823. John was the son of William Horner and Mary Slater.
