2. John Rudolph2 Bortmass (Adam1) was born in Mt Pleasant Twp, Westmoreland Co, PA January 8, 1784. John died about 1855 in Butler Co, PA.
He married Anna Mary Fleeger in Butler Co, PA, 1805. Polly was born Lancaster Co, Pa. February 28, 1787. Polly was the daughter of Christian Fleeger and Mary Elizabeth Byerly. Polly died about 1845 in Butler Co, PA. In the 1850 census Fairview Twp, Butler Co, PA page 228, Rudolph (age 68) is living with the James Foreman (age 37) family. Rudolph is recorded right next to Benjamin (age 40) and John (age 37). Rudolph is noted as being a farmer born in PA.
John Rudolph Bortmass and Anna Mary Fleeger had the following children:

4 ii. Maria Elizabeth Bortmass was born in Pennsylvania 1809. She married James Foreman in Fairview Twp, Butler Co, PA, about 1832. James was born in Fairview Twp, Butler Co, PA 1812. (See James Foreman for the continuation of this line.)
+ 5 iii. Benjamin Bortmass was born January 20, 1810.
+ 6 iv. John Rudolph Bortmass was born February 11, 1814.
+ 7 v. Christian Christopher Bortmass was born January 20, 1816.
8 vi. Mary Margaret Bortmass(430) was born in Butler Co, PA April 23, 1818. Mary died April 15, 1902 in Lawrence Co, PA, at 83 years of age. Buried in Neshannock U.P. Cemetery, Lawrence Co, PA (row 24) She married Samuel McClure in Pennsylvania, about 1838.
Samuel was born in Pennsylvania March 27, 1812. There is a discrepancy in the birth day but I have used what is recorded on his gravestone. Samuel(431) was the son of unknown McClure and Martha unknown.
Samuel died May 04, 1862 in New Castle, Lawrence Co, PA, at 50 years of age. Buried in Neshannock U.P. Cemetery, Lawrence Co, PA (row 24) (See Samuel McClure for the continuation of this line.) In the 1870 census Shenango Twp, Lawrence Co PA, page 260. Mary (age 51) is recorded with Martha (age 24), Smith (age 26), Hillory (age 22), Marpla (age 19), and Rica (age 17).
In the 1880 census Shenango, Lawrence Co, Pennsylvania page 258, Jas. D Sankey (age 46) is recorded with his wife Maria (age 40), Dicky (age 15), Mary (age 7), BroL Hillory McClure (age 33), and MotherL Mary McClure (age 62).
Biographical sketch from Margaret Sica's research on the McClure family:
For the last 5 years of her life, Polly (Mary) lived with her daughter, Emily, in Butler Co, PA. She had previously lived with another daughter in New Castle, PA. Her obituary states she had been a resident of New Castle, PA, for over 60 years. About 8 years before her death she suffered a stroke from which she recovered fairly well and was able to walk miles. She was a member of the Park Christian Church (Disciple of Christ) in New Castle, PA. Mary's maiden name is also spelled in some research as Bortmass.
In the 1803 Tax list for Middlesex Twp, Butler Cp PA, there is recorded an Adam Bortmass with 400 acres.
In April 1804 in Clay Twp, Butler Co PA an Adam Bortmass was tax collector.
In the History of Butler County Pennsylvania, 1895 Clay Township, Chapter 50 Rudolph BORTMASS settled in Clay township early
The town of Springfield, near the Donegal township line, was surveyed for Adam BORTMAS in 1830, and lots were offered for sale on May 25 of that year. The town as then described was favorably located, being at the intersection of the Butler and Bear Creek and the Kittanning and Mercer roads. Stone-coal, limestone and fire-clay abounded, and fine springs were numerous. Grist and saw-mills were in operation in the neighborhood, and several prosperous farmers resided in the tributary country. These advantages were fully set forth inthe newspapers and by posters, but notwithstanding the efforts of Adam BORTMAS, little was accomplished toward establishing a town.
9 vii. John Adam Bortmass was born in Donegal Twp, Butler Co, PA January 5, 1820. He married Nancy Agnes Aggas in Butler Co, PA, 1845. Nancy was born in Butler Co, PA 1818. In the 1850 census Fairview Twp, Butler Co PA page 228, John age 37) is recorded with Nancy (age 32), Sarah A Rider (age 13) and Margaret Rider (age 11). John is recorded as being a farmer and all family members were born in PA.
10 viii. Susannah A Bortmass was born in Butler Co, PA October 1825. Susannah died after 1900 in Union Twp, Wood Co, WV.
