Margaret May Godown passed away at home in Laguna Niguel, California on August 13, 2004, after a courageous battle with heart disease. She was born on May 23, 1921 in Omro, Wisconsin to Herbert Carpenter and Mathilda Kriesel. She had three brothers and two sisters. She attended Omro High School, and in 1942 married Oliver Rodrek and lived in Oshkosh, Wisconsin until her husband's death in 1950 from complications surrounding a wound sustained in World War II. She was the president of her local teachers' union, and went on to complete her master's degree in education at the University of Redlands in 1974 - on her 53rd Birthday. She retired from teaching in 1988. Her husband, Robert, became an agent of the Prudential Insurance Company, and died in November of 2002. Following her second husband's death, Margaret moved from Pomona, California to Laguna Niguel. During her retired years she was active in gardening, knitting, reading, and took great pleasure in her constant companion - a Sheltie named "Princess" - and every Los Angeles Dodgers victory. She loved to travel, both overseas and in the United States - a passion that she passed along to her children. She is survived by a sister and a brother. She is also survived by her loving children Peggy, Carol, Lee and Gail, all of whom graduated from college - something being a life-long educator she was very proud of.
