ELMER A. BROWNELL JR. BOLIVAR — Elmer A. Browned Jr., 69, of 112 South St. died Monday (Oct. 8, 2001) in his home. Born June 18, 1932, in Wellsville, he was a son of Elmer A. and Dorothy Jackson Brownell Sr. He was married to the former Alice Armstrong, who survives. Mr. Browned was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a welder for Pipeline Union Local 798, working locally for Joyce Pipeline. He had lived in the Wellsville area before moving to Bolivar 10 years ago. Mr. Browned was a life member of the American Legion, enjoyed hunting and in his earlier years enjoyed pulling ponies. Surviving besides his wife of Belfast are four sons, Daniel (Linda) Brownell, Elmer A. Brownell III and Darrold (Doria) Brownell, all of Wellsville, and Clarence Brownell of Depew; a daughter, Jeanna Brownell of Wellsville; five granddaughters; a sister, Darlene (Cecil Sr.) Irish of Wellsville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends callws Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., Wellsville, where funeral services were held Friday (Oct. 12, 2001) at 2 p.m. The Rev. Ralph Eastlack officiates. Burial in Yorks Corners Cemetery.
He married Alice P. Armstrong. Alice was born in Wellsville, Allegany Co, NY March 23, 1940. Alice was the daughter of Clarence E Armstrong and Helen Pearl Haskins. Alice P. Brownell, 70, a former resident of 15 1/2 Main St., died Saturday (June 19, 2010) at the Wellsville Manor Care Center with her family at her side. She was born March 23, 1940, in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Helen Pearl (Haskins) Armstrong.
Alice was employed as a waitress at the Texas Hot and the Cross Diner in Wellsville, Ernida’s in Andover and the Belfast Hotel. Alice enjoyed being a waitress and getting to know her regular customers. The highlight of Alice’s career was in the early ‘60s, while working at a diner in Rochester, she served two actors: Richard Chamberlain from the “Dr. Kildare” show and Vince Edwards from the “Dr. Ben Casey” show. She always treasured the autographed photos she received. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Belfast and enjoyed scratch-off tickets.
She was a loving mother of five children, Daniel E. (Linda) Brownell, Jeanna L. Brownell, Elmer A. Brownell III, Darrold L. (Doria) Brownell and Clarence G. Brownell, all of Wellsville; five granddaughters, Kay (Andy) Middaugh, Jessica L. Cole, Krystal (Chris) Howard, Deanna Brownell and Darcy Brownell; one great-grandson, Dylan Howard; four brothers, Roy, John and Glenn Armstrong, all of Wellsville, and Neil Cline of Scio; three sisters, Vina Raught of Angelica, Helen Coy of Wellsville, and Olive Jordan of Ravenna, Ohio; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Gordon and Clarence Armstrong; one sister, Virginia Greenman; her husband, Elmer A. Brownell Jr.; and her longtime companion, Stanley Prentice.
Friends are invited to call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Dick Helms presiding. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Belfast.

Clarence G. Brownell, 46, of Niles Hill died unexpectedly on Saturday (Sept. 29, 2012), at the Corning Hospital. He was born on Jan. 8, 1966, in Wellsville, to Elmer A. and Alice P. Armstrong Brownell Jr.
Clarence graduated from Wellsville High School in 1984. While in High School, Clarence enjoyed participating in the musicals and played the lead in three of them. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany on the border patrol. Clarence was a jack of all trades, but mainly worked in building construction and was last employed by General Roofing. Clarence was kind-hearted and was the life of the party who liked to sing karaoke. He loved spending time with family and friends, outdoor activities, camping and having bonfires.
Survivors include a sister, Jeanna Brownell of Wellsville; three brothers, Daniel (Linda) Brownell, Darrold (Doria) Brownell and Elmer Brownell, all of Wellsville; five nieces; two great-nephews; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, parents and a baby sister.
Friends are invited to call on Friday (Oct. 5, 2012) from noon-2 p.m. at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville, at which time a funeral service will be held. Burial will be in the Yorks Corners Cemetery Cold War Vet, US Army. Border patrol in Germany
