He married Hazel VanKeuren in Willing Twp, Allegany Co, NY, February 3, 1915. Hazel was born in Alma, Allegany Co, NY March 3, 1899. Hazel was the daughter of George VanKeuren and Ellen Studor. Hazel died November 15, 1920 in Willing Twp, Allegany Co, NY, at 21 years of age. Wellsville Daily Reporter Nov 16, 1920 Mrs James H Brownell of Willing, died Monday morning Nov 15, 1920 at 11:50 o'clock. She was 21 years of age and was born in Alma on March 3, 1899, the daughter of George and Ellen Studor VanKeuren. From Alma she came to Wellsville, where she lived until two years ag, when she went to Willing. On Feb 3 1915 she was married to James H Brownell. Besides her husband and paremts, she is survived by two children Rosa and Leon. Hazel his wife died Nov 15, 1920 and Nov 16, 1920 his house was distroyed by fire.

Wellsville, NY - Hartrick J. "Bud" Brownell Sr., age 85, of the 106 Road passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Jones Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on March 2, 1927 in Alma to James H. and Flossie Schram Brownell. On July 28, 1947 he married Virginia Empson who predeceased him on December 14, 1992.
Bud, who graduated from Wellsville High School, was a lifelong resident of the Wellsville Area. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Panama Canal Zone as a military policeman. After the service Bud worked in the oil fields for many years and then retired from the Rochester Button Factory. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and trap. He was a charter member of the Alma Rod and Gun Club where he held the office of President for many years. In his spare time Bud grew potatoes that where know as "Buds Spuds".
Survivors include: 4 sons, Hartrick (Patty) "Butch" Brownell Jr., Larry (Kathy) Brownell, Gary Brownell and Mike (Sherry) Brownell; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grand children; a sister Phyllis Winborne; 2 brothers, Jack Brownell and Jim Brownell; several nieces and nephews.
Beside his loving wife he was predeceased by 3 sisters, Rose Hunt, Jean Farwell and Joyce Jackson; 2 brothers, Sam "Leon" Brownell and Richard "Dick" Brownell; a granddaughter, Monique Brownell.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, February 5, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. His funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday in the Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Miller presiding and burial in York's Corners Cemetery.
He married Virginia Empson July 28, 1947.
Virginia died December 14, 1992.

16 iv. Joyce B Brownell was born in Willing Twp, Allegany Co, NY June 10, 1935. Joyce died November 10, 2005 in Wellsville, Allegany Co, NY, at 70 years of age. Joyce B. Jackson Wellsville, NY Joyce B. Jackson, 70, of Fords Brook Road, passed away on November 10, 2005 at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born on June 10, 1935 in the Town of Willing to James H. and Florence “Flossie” Schram Brownell. On November 7, 1953 in Wellsville she married Millard U. Jackson who survives. Joyce was a graduate of Wellsville High School and helped her husband run the family farm. She was a member of the Penn York Camp and a life long member of the Yorks Corners Mennonite Church where she was a very active member. Joyce loved gardening, reading, walking, listening to the Family life Network Radio Station and spending time with her grandchildren.Surviving besides her husband: 3 sons Rick [Esther] Jackson of Lancaster, PA, Den [Debbie] Jackson of Scio and Andrew [Melissa] Jackson of Westby, WI.; a daughter Suzanne [Jim] Mix of Hornell; 7 grandchildren; 3 Brothers, Hartrick “Bud” Brownell of Wellsville, John “Jack” [Stella] Brownell of West Jordan, UT and James [Ruth] Brownell of Wellsville. 2 sisters, Phyllis Winborn of Houston,TX. and Jean [Fred] Farwell of Scio as well as several nieces and nephews. Joyce was predeceased by a son Raymond Jackson, a brother Richard Brownell, a half brother Leon “Sam” Brownell and a half sister Rose Hunt. Friends are invited to call on Saturday [Nov. 12] from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. A Funeral service will be held on Sunday in the Yorks Corners Mennonite Church at 2 pm with Rev. Eugene Miller presiding. Burial will be in the Yorks Corners Cemetery
