17. John4 McClure II (John3, Unknown2, unknown1) was born in New Castle, DE 1723. John died July 1811 in Mifflin, Allegheny Co, PA, at 88 years of age. He is buried Lebanon Church, Mifflin Twp. Allegheny Co., PA

He married Martha Denny in Mifflin, Allegheny Co, PA, about 1748. Martha was born in Forward, Allegheny Co, PA 1727. Some other research has Martha Denny birth as 1725 in Chester Co, PA Martha was the daughter of William Denny and Agnes unknown.

Martha died 1788 in Mifflin, Allegheny Co, PA, at 61 years of age. There is some research discrepancies that place John Jr with a father of Charles. I have two secondary sources that place John Jr with a father of John. Also the place of birth has some discrepancies. Further research needs to be done because it is entirely possible that two couples by the name of John McClure and Martha Denny existed in the same area, at the same time, and were about the same age. This would account for the children I assumed had died but I have found no death records for.

In 1753 he was elected coroner of Cumberland County, and served two terms, 1754 to 1758

appears on records of Fort Pitt July 22, 1760

It is said that the latter years of his life were spent in an easy social way. He kept a pack of hounds and took delight in the chase. Politically he was a Federalist and took a lively interest in the questions of his day. His name also appears as administrator of estates and in other positions of trust. He died July, 1811, and is buried at Lebanon Church, Mifflin Township, Allegheny County, Pa. Of the death of his wife there is no record

There is a John McClure in Shenango Twp Beaver Co PA page 24 and 27.

John McClure II and Martha Denny had the following children:

child + 64 i. William5 McClure was born 1750.

child 65 ii. Elizabeth McClure was born in Willow Grove, Carlisle, Cumberland Co, PA 1752. Elizabeth died before 1769. It is assumed that Elizabeth died at a young age since ther is another Elizabeth born in the same family. The birth place is recorded as being near Forward.

child 66 iii. John McClure was born in Willow Grove, Carlisle, Cumberland Co, PA 1754. I have assumed that this John died sometime before the birth of the second John recorded for this family John died before 1765. There is a John McClure in Shenango Twp Beaver Co PA page 24 and 27.

child 67 iv. Denny McClure was born in Willow Grove, Carlisle, Cumberland Co, PA 1756. Denny died before 1771. Since ther are two Denny's recorded as being born to this family, it is assumbed that this Denny bied at an young age sometime before 1771, the other Denny's birth.

child 68 v. James McClure was born in Willow Grove, Carlisle, Cumberland Co, PA 1758. He married Jane McAllister in Mercersburg, Franklin County, Pa, April 23, 1789. They were married in Upper West Conococheague Presbyterian Church.

(See Richard McClure for the continuation of this line.)
