Second Generation

3. Samuel2 McClure (unknown1)(3666) was born in Pennsylvania March 27, 1812. There is a discrepancy in the birth day but I have used what is recorded on his gravestone. Samuel died May 04, 1862 in New Castle, Lawrence Co, PA, at 50 years of age. Buried in Neshannock U.P. Cemetery, Lawrence Co, PA (row 24)

He married Mary Margaret Bortmass in Pennsylvania, about 1838. Mary was born in Butler Co, PA April 23, 1818. Mary(3667) was the daughter of John Rudolph Bortmass and Anna Mary Fleeger. Mary died April 15, 1902 in Lawrence Co, PA, at 83 years of age. Buried in Neshannock U.P. Cemetery, Lawrence Co, PA (row 24) In the 1810 census Butler Co page 123, there is a C. McClune index (need to get actual record) in Donnegal Twp. The Bortmass family settled in Donnegal Twp. Also in Shenango Twp Beaver Co page 24 a John, page 27, a James and John McClure is listed.

In the 1820 census Shenango Twp, Beaver Co page 133, there is a John McClure.

In the 1830 census Shenango Twp, Beaver Co page , a Martha McClure is recorded living with 2 males 20-30, 1 female under 10-15, 1 female 20-30 and 1 female 50-60. I have assumed that Martha is the recorded female 50-60.

In the 1840 census Shenango Twp, Beaver Co page 37, Samuel (age 20-30) is recorded living with 1 female under 5, and 1 female 20-30. So according to this record thay have had an older daughter than Maria.

In the 1850 census in Shenango Twp, Lawrence Co, PA page 164, there is a Samuel (age 35) and Mary (age 31) McClure there with their family of 5 children, Maria (age 8), Martha (age 6), Rudolph (age 4), John (age 2), and Marilla (age 1). This record was hard to find since the original records were so light and hard to read. The 1850 indexes had the last name spelled as McCline. Samuel has the occupation of Steel Cutter and a real estate value of $500, in this census

In the 1860 census Shenango Twp, New Castle PO,Lawrence Co, PA page 24, Samuel (age 48) is recorded with Mary (age 41), Martha (age 17), Smith (age 15), John (age 13), Marilla (age 11), Victoria (age 7), and Adeline (age 4).

Samuel and Mary had 6 children. Other research has stated that Samuel McClure lived in New Castle and possibably had his children there.

Biographical sketch from Margaret Sica's research on the McClure family:

This Samuel is (possibly) the son of the Samuel McClure who settled in Shenango Twp, Lawrence Co, PA, between 1797-1800. He made the first improvements on the place; the log-cabin built by him. (1787 it was in Alleghany Co, 1800 became part of Beaver Co, and in 1849 became part of Lawrence Co.) He purchased part of Lot #5/1st. Donation District from a Mr. Craig. In 1803 he sold part of it. In 1822 he sold another part of it to Archibald Cubbison. (NOTE that 2 of Samuel's sons, John Hillery and Rudolph Smith, served from Shenango Twp. during the Civil War.)

Samuel McClure and Mary Margaret Bortmass had the following children:

child 6 i. Elizabeth Maria3 McClure was born in Lawrence Co, PA September 23, 1840. She is with her family in Shenango, Lawrence Co, PA in 1850 page 164 age 8. Elizabeth died before 1900. She married Joseph D Sankey in Lawrence Co, PA, about 1860. Joseph was born in Lawrence Co, PA May 1831. Joseph was the son of James Sankey and Mary unknown. (See Joseph D Sankey for the continuation of this line.) Some research has her first name listed as Maria with the middle name as Elizabeth. Her last know address was New Castle, Lawrence Co, PA in 1902 (M. E. Sica research). Although very hard to read, the 1850 census looks like Maria age 8.

I have placed Jacob as the child of Nickel Wommer and Marie Marker as found in the LDS IGI records. Jake was the son of Johann Nickolas Wommer and Marie Dorothee Marker. (See Jacob D Wommer for the continuation of this line.) Martha is listed with her family in the 1850 census at age 6.

Wilson was born in Gatesburg, Centre Co, Pa 1848. Wilson was the son of Joseph B Grazier and Esther Rumbarger. Wilson died 1904 at 56 years of age. (See Wilson Peter Grazier for the continuation of this line.)
