2. George Washington² Pittenger (Isaac L¹) was born Frenchtown, Hunterdon Co, NJ July 3, 1830. George died June 23, 1897 in Bridgewater, Somerset Co, NJ, at 66 years of age. Buried in North Branch Cemetery with his wife Margaret, son William and Helen who presumably was William's daughter.

He married Margaret Godown November 19, 1854. Margaret was born Hickory Corner, Hunterdon, NJ January 11, 1834. Margaret⁽⁴¹⁶⁷⁾ was the daughter of John A Godown and Abigail Robins. Margaret died March 1907 in Bridgewater, Somerset Co, NJ, at 73 years of age. In the NJ 1860 census there is a George Pittenger in Branchburgh Twp, Somerset Co NJ page 908. Need to lookup.

In teh 1880 census Branchburg, Somerset, New Jersey page 452B, George (age 50) is living with his wife Margaret (age 45) and 6 children.

George Washington Pittenger and Margaret Godown had the following children:

3 i. Mary³ Pittenger was born 1855. Mary died before 1865.

4 ii. Lucinda Pittenger was born February 10, 1856.

5 iii. Clarissa Pittenger was born November 01, 1856.

6 iv. Jonas R Pittenger was born in Union Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ June 30, 1858. Jonas died December 25, 1938 Ringoes, Hunterdon Co, NJ, at 80 years of age. He married Mary Elizabeth Cherry September 25, 1889. Mary was born Delaware Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ October 11, 1867. Mary was the daughter of George W Cherry and Harriet unknown. Mary died February 25, 1952 at 84 years of age.

7 v. Gilbert Pittenger was born in Bridgewater, Somerset Co, NJ 1859.

8 vi. Belle Pittenger was born about 1861.

9 vii. Mary Ann Pittenger was born February 20, 1865. In the 1900 census Somerset Co page 94A, Annie has the birth date of August 1862. Annie is deceased. Buried in Somerville Cemetery as are Joseph, Ethel (Kersting), John and Margaret (Nash) She married Andrew Bell March 21, 1883.

Andrew was born June 1858. (Additional notes for Andrew Bell⁽⁴¹⁶⁸⁾) (See Andrew Bell for the continuation of this line.) One researcher has a second Mary shortly after the first Mary's death. There is a Belle and an Annie not in the first researchers list. I have added a middle name to this Mary of Ann.

10 viii. Margaret Pittenger was born in Branchburg Twp, Somerset Co, NJ February 20, 1866.

11 ix. George Pittenger was born in Branchburg Twp, Somerset Co, NJ April 1867.

12 x. Elizabeth Titus Pittenger was born in Bridgewater, Somerset Co, NJ November 26, 1869. Lizzie died January 26, 1944 in Bridgewater, Somerset Co, NJ, at 74 years of age.

13 xi. William Pittenger was born in Branchburg Twp, Somerset Co, NJ 1874.

14 xii. Rachel Pittenger was born in Branchburg Twp, Somerset Co, NJ 1875.
