Second Generation

2. Jacob Frederick2 Ravely (Matthias1 Reble)(4374) was born in Buoch, Germany October 15, 1791. Buoch Germany is 10 miles outside of Stuttgart Germany. Jacob died August 1849 in Taylorsburg, Montgomery Co, OH, at 57 years of age.

He married twice. He married Anna Maria Schaefer. Anna was born in Germany October 15, 1794. Anna died 1830? at 35 years of age. He married Apollonia Gratz about 1834. Apollonia was born in York, York Co, PA January 15, 1807. Apollonia died January 16, 1890 in Sidney, Shelby Co, OH, at 83 years of age. Apollinia died at the home of her youngest daughter Matilda Portsmouth. She is burried at Graceland Cemetery, lot 84, Section 5, Sidney, Shelby Co, Ohio. (note supplied by Caryn Grommesch) According to the Grommesch research:

Jacob was a vinegrower by trade and served in the German army. He and his family traveled to America through the Netherlands around 1830. The 1850 census contains a Abselom Rabley as the head of the household. Although Jacob's will left Apollonia everything, it is suspected she made up "Absolem" for some reason. No reference to him before or after the 1850 census has been found. It is also interesting that Absolem's age and birthplace match Apollonia's. During Jacob's lifetime he used several variations of his name. His emigration papers from Wurttemburg, Germany state that his name was Jacob Friederick Reble. In 1840 his naturalization papers from Montogomery County say he is Frederick Reble. Nine years later he used the name Jacob Frederick Rabley and left his wife Apollonia Rabley all of his possessions. After Jacob's death, it appears Apollonia and the children used the surname Ravely exclusively.
