Thursday, May 28, 1953 Paper: Augusta Chronicle Wrens, Ga, May 27 - Joseph Floyd Rhodes, 69, of Avera, died at the residence, at 12.20pm today after a lingering illness. He was a farmer, a native of Jefferson county and the son of the late Richard and Penelope Brannon Rhodes. He was a member of Waldens Methodist church, near Avers where funeral services will be held at 3.30 PM Thursday, with the Rev Paul Barrett and the Rev Fred L Steering officiating. Interment will be in Waldens church cemetery. He is survived by his wife Mrs Angels Newsone Rhodes; one son J.F. Rhodes of Avera; four daughters, Mrs Myrtle Godowns of Wrens, Mrs Eula Williams of Avera, and Mrs Lucile King of Augusta; one brother, John Rodes of Keysville; three sisters, Mrs Beckie Harden of Avera, Mrs Mattie Landrum of Stapleton, and Lilly Hadden of Augusta; 14 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a number of nieces and Nephews.

He married Angelo Newsome Jefferson Co, GA, February 5, 1905. Angelo was born August 18, 1879. Angelo died May 6, 1972 at 92 years of age. Burial: Waldens United Methodist Church Cemetery Avera, Jefferson County, Georgia, USA

Wrens, Ga, - Mrs Angelo Newsome Rhodes, 93, of Wrens dies Saturday afternoon in a Louisville hospital following an extended illness. She was the widow of Joseph Floyd Rhodes. Funeral services will be at 3pm Monday at Waldens Methodist Church near Avers with Rev Dan Overstreet. Rev Cecil Ruffing and Rev Warren Stipes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She was a native of Glascock County and the daughter of Solomon and Catherine Usry Newsome. She had lived in Wrens for 20 years and was a member of the Wrens Methdist church. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs Ada Belle Dixon, Avera, Mrs Eula Williams, Averam and Miss Lucile Rhodes, Wrens: one son J.F. Rhodes, Louisville; one sister Mrs Ollie Kirkendoll, Augusta: two brothers, Oscar Newsome and Ernie Newsome, Wrens

Friday, February 21, 1958 Paper: Augusta Chronicle Wrens GA - Mrs Myrtle Rhodes Godowns of Wrens, wife of James Otis Godowns, died at her residence Thursday. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3PM at Walden Methodist Church near Avera GA. The pastor, Rev Ralph Foster and the Rev Bill Hurdle officiating. Internment will be in the chruch cemetary. A native of Jeffeson County, Mrs Godowns was the daughter of Mrs Angele Newsome Rhodes and the late Floyd Rhodes and was educated in Jefferson County schools. She was a member of the Wrens Methodist Church. Survivors besides her husband and her mother, are two sons, J. Mervin Godowns of Augista and Elton Otis Godowns of Wrens; a brother J.F. Rhodes Jr. of Louisville; three sisters Mrs. Ada Belle Dixon and Mrs Eula Williams of Avera and Miss Lucille Rhodes of Wrens; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Wrens Ga - James Otis Godowns 71, 106 Walker St., Died Monday in a Richmond County hospital. Burial will be in Waldens United Methodist Church Cemetery, near Avera, Mr. Godowns was a native of Jefferson County and a former enployee of the Standard Oil Co. He was a retired merchant and a member of Waldens United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lucy Stroud Godowns; two sons J.M. Godowns and Elton Godowns, Augusta, a sister, Alma Hobbs, Wrens; and a stepson, Donald Stroud, Augusta.
