Second Generation

8. Jacob D2 Wommer (Johann Nickolas1) was born in Birkenfeld, Oldenburg, Germany April 1845. The 1900 census notes his birth place as Germany and has an immigration date. of 1847. I have placed Jacob as the child of Nickel Wommer and Marie Marker as found in the LDS IGI records.

He married Martha Ellen McClure in New Castle, Lawrence Co, PA, September 04, 1873. Mattie was born in Lawrence Co, PA February 24, 1843. Mattie(5714) was the daughter of Samuel McClure and Mary Margaret Bortmass.

He was christened in Birkenfeld, Oldenburg, Germany, April 20, 1845. Jacob D Wommer is listed as having served from Wilmington Twp, Lawrence Co, PA, during the Civil War, in Co. B, 100th Regiment, P.V.I. "The Roundheads" Regiment. Companies B, E, F, H, I and K of the "Roundheads" were raised in Lawrence Co, PA. Jacob served from February 24, 1864 to July 24, 1865, when he was mustered out with the regiment. At the time of their marriage (1873) Jacob was residing in St. Petersburg, Clarion Co, PA., and "Mattie" was a resident of New Castle, Lawrence Co, PA. Perhaps Jake had gone to the St. Petersburg area because of the (then active) exploration for oil in that area. Reference: M. E. Sica research

In the 1850 census Venango Twp, Butler Co page 352, there is a Jacob (age 8) is living with his father Jacob, mother Catharine, and 8 brothers and sisters. This is probably not the correct Wommer family (see above)

In the 1880 census East Brady, Clarion Co, Pennsylvania page 104, Jacob (age 35) is recorded with his wife Martha (age 37), Minnie (age 5), Clifford (age 2), and Grace (age 1). Jacob is a mill worker born in Germany and the other births are PA.

In the 1900 census Bellevue Borough, Allegheny Co PA page 20B, Jacob (age 55) is living with his wife Martha (age 57), Minnie (age 25), Grace (age 21), Chester (age 19), Ella (age 16) and Helen (age 14). They have been married for 27 years, have had 6 children all living at the time of the census. Jacob has the occupation of Oil Producer, and owns his home with no mortgage. He immigrated probably from Germany in 1847 and was noted as unnaturalized.
