He married three times. He married Mary Thatcher in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, before 1749. Mary was born in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey December 21, 1733. Mary(1286) was the daughter of Amos L. Thatcher and Lydia Prail. Mary died January 23, 1837 Miami Co, Ohio, at 103 years of age. In the Guargianship papers for Hannah Godown, There is a Daniel Thatcher listed with Thomas Godown as Executor.

In the mortgage on Samuel Hunt to John Godown, Thomas Godown is listed with a Mary Godown.

He married Abigail Roberts in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, January 10, 1772. Marriages and Divorces By the Court of Chancery. page 158 Goodown, Evans, Hunterdon, and Abigail Roberts, Hunterdon 1772 Jan. 10

Abigail was born in Hopewell, Hunterdon Co, NJ about 1750. (Additional notes for Abigail Roberts(1287)) Abigail died before 1779 in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey. He married Rachel Stout in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, September 23, 1779. Rachel Stout Rounsavell married for a second time to Evans Godown (son of Jacob Godowon) on September 23, 1779 in St. Andrews Church in Amwell Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey by Rev. William Frazer.

Rachel was born in Clover Hill, Hunterdon Co, NJ September 28, 1738. Rachel(1288) was the daughter of Freegift Stout and Mary Higgins. Rachel died March 29, 1845 in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, at 106 years of age. PLEASE NOTE that we have no proof that Jacob is Evans father

There has been a lot of confusion, and rightly so, on the name Evan and Evans. A lot of the records referred to the same person but without the "s" on his name. I do believe that Donna Evans in her research has finally resolved this confusion. Many thanks for her hard work! Evans was listed as a Warden of St Andrew's Church in Amwell in a statement that the Rev'd William Frazer did reopen this church on Christmas day 1784. The statement above was dated Sep 17, 1785. St Andrew's Church is reported to have been in existance as early as 1725. Looking at the Hunterdon County marriage records, this church was an important part of our family's history. Rev Frazer performed at least 5 of the Godown marriages from 1777 to 1783. Evans is also listed in the History of East Amwell on page 210. Evans appears on the Hunterdon County Taxpayer rolls 1780-1789.

John Godown (m. Mary Rounsaville, 1777 - Bible Record, HC Hist. Soc.; Rev. Frazer's Marriages); Jacob Godown (m. Elizabeth Lake, 1783; Rev. Frazer's Marriages); Thomas Godown (m. Eve Fox, 1801; Deats, HC Marriages); Mary Godown; Daniel Thatcher (m. Katherine Godown, 1771; Nelson, Marriages; LDS records on Thatcher family sent by Bob Bishop); James Gano (m. Rebecca Godown; DAR Patriot index); Freegit (sic.) Rounsavell (m. Allemina Godown, 1779); Isaac Lake (m. Elizabeth Godown, 1783, Rev. Frazer's Marriages); Thomas Lann; children Amos Thatcher and wife, dec'd (Amos, Daniel, Amy, Mary, Martha, all born aft. 1759; LDS records sent by Bob Bishop)

(neither Hannah Godown ; although the minor children of Amos and his wife, dec'd are listed; The Hannah Godown who m. Joseph Modeson in Kingwood does so in 1796. If she were the widow of Thomas Lann, she'd be Hannah Lann, not Hannah Godown. Would this indicate that Hannah was Richard and Rachel's daughter? Confusing!)

I have changed it to a "K" since that is the way it is recorded in the Hunterdon County marriage records.

Additional Children of Allemina Godown Rounsvell: Hunterdon County Court House Surrogates Office,State of New Jersey, Minutes of Orphans Court,Vol. 3, 1806-1816, pp. 60-72 is documentation of Division of Lands of Freegift Rounsvell, lists children:Sarah, Rachel, John, Richard, Evan, Mary and Rebekka Rounsavell. A baptismal record for Rebekka Rounsavell in the Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey, Vol. IX, 1933-34, p.122, giving her birthdate as 20 May 1790. Of course the baptism took place 10 Nov 1811, AFTER she had married Benjamin Hulshizer (they spell it Hultzhauser in the baptismal record); the baptism records lists Freegift Roncevele and wife Minon as her parents.

child + 68 vii. Jacob Godown was born 1760.

Evans Godown and Abigail Roberts had the following child:

In 1790 the court appointed Thomas Godown , Hannah's (now 17) legal guardian most likely right after the death of Evans. A speculation that Hannah may be Richard Roundsavill and Rachel's daughter is found in the 1792 mortgage listing that does not list Hannah. (see Evans)

In the Hunterdon Gazette on July 20, 1859: On Wednesday morning the 13th inst., at the residence of her son-in-law, Elijah Lare, at Frenchtown, Hannah, wife of Joseph Mattison, formerly of Kingwood, aged eighty-six years and one day.
