62. John8 Godown Sr (Evans7, Jacob6, Jacob5 Goedowne, Abraham4, Jacob3 Godon, Abraham2, Main Family Line1 Godown)(1308) was born in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey April 1, 1749. John died December 8, 1814 in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, at 65 years of age. Will abstract: 1815, Jan 16. Godown, John of Amwell, Hunterdon Co. Int.Inventory, $973.33; made by Garshom Lambert, Jacob Taylor. Includes share in Amwell Library @ $6.00. Sworn to be Evan Godown, Adm'f, Feb. 10, 1815. File 2739 J.

He married Mary D Rounsavill in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, December 22, 1777. Married at St. Andrews Church in Amwell Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey by Rev. William Frazer.

Mary was born in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey September 4, 1756. There is some discrepency in the birth date. Daughters of the American Revolution has the date as Sep 4, 1756. The Rounsavill bible records list the date as Sep 8, 1756, the date I have used. Mary(1309) was the daughter of Richard Rounsavell Jr and Rachel Stout.

Mary died March 29, 1845 in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, at 88 years of age. In a letter dated June 4, 1911 by Mrs John M has verified from the Trenton Auditor of State, that John served in the revolutionary war and was with Washington crossing the Delaware. Other records also show that He was a private under Cornelius Hoppock's Company, Colonel David Chamber's Third Regiment of Foot Associators, Hunterdon County Militia. He serve as a Minute Man and had active duty from Jan 20, 1777 to Jan 22, 1777 at the battle of Van Nest's Mill. There is a John Godown listed as trustee of the St. Andrews Church in Amwell in 1799 (History of East Amwell page 210 thru 223). Later on John, apparently still a trustee, leased some of the land of St. Andrews which had now fallen into ruin, to a John Barcroft. A John appears on the Hunterdon County Tax rolls roughly 1780-1789. A John appears in the WFA 1790 census index for the year 1793. The county is listed as Essex and the town as Armwell. Upon John's death and witnessed by Evan, this is an inventory of his goods:

John Godown Sr and Mary D Rounsavill had the following children:

child + 76 i. Evan9 Godown was born June 24, 1778.

child 79 iv. Mary Godown(1311) was born in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey August 04, 1784. Polly died June 23, 1876 Lambertville, Hunterdon Co, NJ, at 91 years of age. She married Jonathan Pidcock in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, October 01, 1806. Polly was born in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey September 6, 1783. Polly(1312) was the son of Charles Pidcock and Martha Hoagland. Polly died February 2, 1861 Lambertville, Hunterdon Co, NJ, at 77 years of age. (See Jonathan Pidcock for the continuation of this line.) Hunterdon County marrage record record a Mary Godown being married to a Jonathan Pidcock and the application on the Daughters of the American Revolution list Mary being married to a William Osburn. Since Mary is still living in 1870 at age 85 with the last name of Pidcock, there is very little change that this Mary Godown also married William Osburn.

Also there is a correction in the Hunterdon Co Marriage records that list William Osburn marriage to Mary Gaddis (not Godown) 30 April 1804

In the 1870 census Lambertville Amwell Twp Hunterdon Co page 418B, Mary (age 85) is living with Peter (age 46) and family.

child + 80 v. Richard S Godown was born February 09, 1787.

John was that he was killed while driving horses through PA.

She married Charles W Kitchen in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, January 07, 1815. Charles was born in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey about 1780. Charles(1315) was the son of Henry Kitchen and Elizabeth Jewell. Charles died 1828 in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, at 48 years of age. (See Charles W Kitchen for the continuation of this line.) It looks as if Sarah and Jonathan go to live with Jacob, Sarah's brother, upon the death of Charles, and then Sarah goes to live with John her nephew.

In the 1860 census Flemington Hunterdon Co page 258, Ann Godown (age 67) is living Richard Reed household along with Alexander Godown (age 38).

Ann (age 78) is living with Charles A and family in Sergantsville, Deleware Twp, Hunderton Co, New Jersey in the 1870 census.
