136. Jacob C10 Godown (John A9, Jacob8, Evans7, Jacob6, Jacob5 Goedowne, Abraham4, Jacob3 Godon, Abraham2, Main Family Line1 Godown) was born Hickory Corner, Hunterdon, NJ May 10, 1827. Jacob died June 20, 1888 Hickory Corner, Hunterdon, NJ, at 61 years of age. He is buried in the Methodist church graveyard in Pattenburg.
He married Caroline Louisa Chapman in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, 1857. Caroline was born South Glastenbury, Conn December 4, 1840. Her gravestone has her birth year as 1840 In the 1900 census her birth date is recorded as Dec 1839. Caroline was the daughter of William Chapman and Cyrilla Chapman.
Caroline died March 22, 1925 in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, at 84 years of age. Her gravestone has her death year as 1925 Obituary Easton Express March 24, 1925 Mrs Caroline Louise Robbins, wife of Jonathan Robbins, died March 23, 1925 at her home, near the Hickory, in the vicinity of Little York, aged 85 years. Death resulted from a complication of allments. Besides her husband Mrs Robbins is surived by two sons by a former marriage, Oliver Godown of Bloomsbury, and Frank Godown of Flemington. She was a member of Little York Methodist Episcopal church. Jacob was deeply religious and serious. He was a carpenter and builder (many of the buildings in the area were framed by him). As a skilled workman, he earned $1.25 a day. Some items made by him were, bucksleds, axe handles, cradles, rolling pins, and flour scoops.
In his youth, he worked in a boatyard at New Brunswick, New Jersey where he met and married Caroline Louisa Chapman.
In the 1850 census Branchburg, Somerset Co, New Jersey page 446, a Jacob (age 22) is living with Moses Robins (age 23) and Susan Mary Robins (age 23). Jacob is a laborer so would assume that he is working for Moses.
Jacob (age 43) in the 1870 census, is living with his family in Frenchtown, Hunterdon Co, NJ. His occupation is listed as a carpenter.
In the 1880 census Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co page 207B, Jacob (age 52) is living with his wife Lucy (age 48) and son Oliver (age 25). He has an occupation of laborer.
In the 1885 state census Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co NJ page 13, Jacob is living with Lucina?, Oliver and Frank.
Jacob C Godown and Caroline Louisa Chapman had the following children:

249 ii. Emma Corbell Godown was born Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ April 22, 1863. Emma died December 14, 1863 Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ, at less than one year of age. Burried at Pattenburg United Methodist Churchyard Hunterdon Co NJ.
250 iii. Franklin Owen Godown(1465) was born Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ July 16, 1870. Frank (age 1) is listed in the 1870 census with his family. Franklin died February 26, 1943 Flemington, Hunterdon Co, NJ, at 72 years of age. Frank took his own life shortly after taking his wife's. In a Flemington news article dated Tuesday March 2, 1943, states that the bodies had been dead since friday. Saturdays mail remained unopened. He was an antigue repairman and a cabnet maker and she was a private music instructor.
Death date is based on an article in the Courier-News of Bridgewater, New Jersey dated March 17, 1944. Is about a suit brought by Bessie's relatives for the estate of Frank and Bessie totaling $18,000. Frank supposedly had taken his wifes life and then took his own by severing an artury in his leg. No formal investigation was done. He married twice.
He married Nettie Frances Barnes in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, January 25, 1890. Nettie was born Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ July 1872. Nettie(1466) was the daughter of Samuel Taylor Barnes and Charlotte unknown. Nettie died about 1908 Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ. In the 1900 census page 10a, she is listed as having one child that is no longer living.
Father was born Pa and Mother was born in NJ.
He married Bessie Winifredt Whitney in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, 1910. Bessie was born New York January 1875. Bessie(1467) was the daughter of Eben Whitney and Sarah A unknown. Bessie died February 26, 1943 Flemington, Hunterdon Co, NJ, at 68 years of age. Death date is based on an article in the Courier-News of Bridgewater, New Jersey dated March 17, 1944. Is about a suit brought by Bessie's relatives for the estate of Frank and Bessie totaling $18,000. Frank supposedly had taken his wifes life and then took his own by severing an artury in his leg. No formal investigation was done. She had formal music training from New York College of Music and gave piano lessons out of her home in Flemington.
In the 1900 census page 10a, Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ, Frank is living with his wife of 10 years, Nette. He rents his home and has an occupation of Farmer. They have had no children when the census was taken.
In the 1910 census Alexandria Twp Hunterdon Co NJ page 2B, Frank Godown (age 45) is living with Jonathan Robbins (age 57) and Caroline (age 70). Frank is noted as being married for 20 years, a widower, and the son of Caroline.
In the 1910 census East Raritan Twp Hunterdon Co page 258B, a Frank O (age 41) is living as a boarder with William R (age 19), Frank is noted as being a widower. He has an occupation listed as a glass polisher.
In the 1920 census Flemington, Hunterdon Co NJ page 112, Frank (age 52) is recorded with his wife Bessie. W (age 45). Frank is a carpenter in an Asbestos Factory maker and Bessie is a Piona music teacher.
In the 1930 census 45 Miner Street, Flemington, Hunterdon Co NJ page 14, Frank (age 61) is recorded with his wife B. Winfred (age 55). Frank was first married at age 21 and Bessie at 35. Frank is a cabnet maker and Bessie is a music teacher.
