76. Evan9 Godown (John8, Evans7, Jacob6, Jacob5 Goedowne, Abraham4, Jacob3 Godon, Abraham2, Main Family Line1 Godown)(1332) was born in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey June 24, 1778. Evan died December 3, 1859 in Litchfield, Montgomery Co, IL, at 81 years of age. Burial: Harts Church Cemetery Montgomery Co, Illinois His body was interred December 05, 1859 Hart Cemetery.

He married Elizabeth Hoagland in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, March 19, 1806. Elizabeth was born in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey October 22, 1780. Elizabeth(1333) was the daughter of Derrick Hoagland and Elizabeth Chamberlin. Elizabeth died August 15, 1856 in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, at 75 years of age. buried at 2nd Presby Church Mt. Airy, New Jersey In a newspaper article from True American (Trenton NJ) volume XI issue 532, dated April 10, 1811, Evan offered a reward for the capture of an apprentenced name John Hull Boughner who stold some money from the cash register and ran away,

An Evan Godown appears in the 1830 census Amwell, Hunterdon Co, page 333. Living in the household are males; 1 (Jacob) age 5-10, 1 (Derrick) age 15-20, 1 (Richard) age 20-30, 1 (Evan) age 50-60. Females; 1 (Elizabeth) age 10-15, 1 (Mary) age 20-30, and 1 (Elizabeth) 40-50.

Evan and Elizabeth are appointed guardian to nephew Jonathan P. Kitchen, Orphans Court records. Elizabeth witnesses the will of James Agin.

In the 1840 census Amwell Twp, Evan (age 60-70) is living with another male age 15-20, a female age 15-20, a female age 60-70.

In the 1850 census Amwell page 2b, Evan and Elizabeth have living in their household, Mary A, Richard, Rebecca and a Stryker Daukey age 11 (spelling may be incorrect because in the records this is the last entry on the page and is written throught the last line). Evan has an occupation listed as farmer in the 1850 census with a value of 1,000.

Evan Godown and Elizabeth Hoagland had the following children:

child 101 i. Mary Ann10 Godown(1334) was born in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey November 13, 1806. Mary's age is noted in the 1860 census as 60 which makes her birth year 1800. Mary died March 8, 1873 in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, at 66 years of age. Mary is living with her parents in the 1850 census at age 42.

In the 1860 census, Mary (age 60) is living with Isacher (age 57) and Rebecca (age 42) Hoagland and family in Ringoes, Deleware Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ page 337. This family are probably cousins to Mary since her mother Elizabeth was a Hoagland.

child 102 ii. Derrick H Godown(1335) was born in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey March 08, 1809. Derrick died February 21, 1863 Delaware Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ, at 53 years of age. Inventory of his belongings is recorded in Hunterdon Co index of Wills date of 1863 on page 6270

Buried at Mount Airy Cemetery Hunterdon County NJ. In the 1860 census Derrick (age 51) is living with the family of Enoch Laning in Ringoes, Deleware Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ page 338. He has property value listed as $2,000 in that census.

child 103 iii. Richard Godown was born in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey 1810. In the 1850 census Amwell page 2b, Richard (age 40) is living with his parents with an occupation of Farmer.

Richard apparently lost his 48 acre farm to a suit brought by George Holcombe. Newspaper article dated Tuesday, December 10, 1839 in the Hunterdon Gazette: SHERIFF’S SALE. BY virtue of a writ of Fieri Facias &c. to me directed, issued out of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas of Hunterdon, will be exposed to sale at Public Vendue, on Wednesday the eighth day of January next, at one o’clock, in the afternoon of said day, at the house of John Parker, in the village of Sergeantsville, in the township of Delaware, in the county of Hunterdon, all the right and interest of Richard Godown, in all that farm or parcel of land and appurtenances situated in the said township of Delaware, adjoining lands of Joseph Leigh, Job Woolverton, and others, and now in the possession of George Snyder, said to contain forty-eight acres of land be the same more or less. Seized as the property of Richard Godown, and taken in execution at the suit of George Holcombe, and to be sold by JOHN RUNK, late Sheriff. Dated November 4, 1839.

child 105 v. George Hise Godown(1336) was born in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey July 02, 1813. George died May 20, 1887 Montgomery Co, Illinois, at 73 years of age. Buried at Harts Church Cemetery, Montgomery County, Illinois In the 1850 Ohio census for Liberty Twp we find a George Godown.

In the Daily Illinois State Journal on May 17, 1853, George H Godown at Lasourdville, Butler County, Ohio placed an add for a fifty dollar reward for the capture of John Combs who stole two hundred dollars

1860 census lists George (age 44) in Montgomery Co, Litchfield P. O. IL page 140, living with Jacob and family. He has a property value listed at $2,500 and personal value of $300.

In the 1880 census South Litchfield, Montgomery, Illinois page 342, George (age 66), he is living alone as a farmer.

There is a George H Godown recorded as having purchased 160 acres in S. Litchfield Section 27 S.E. Corner.

George never married.

child 106 vi. Josiah E Godown was born in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey November 02, 1815.

child 107 vii. Elizabeth Godown(1337) was born in Baptistown, Kingwood Twp, Hunterdon Co. NJ February 15, 1817. She married George Snyder in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, December 5, 1835. George was born in New Jersey about 1815. (See George Snyder for the continuation of this line.) Elizabeth Snyder is recorded in the 1850 census as living in the household of Richard S Godown.

Elizabeth Snyder is recorded as living with Richard and Mary in the 1850 Census at age 30. I have recorded them here because usually when we see someone age 30 with 2 children living in another household, they are usually related in some way.

An Elizabeth is recorded in the IGI as being born in 1820 in Kingswood NJ and having Ralph, Richard, and Mrs Mary Godown as relatives. This is could also be the same Elizabeth the is living with her brother Pierson Godown in the Raritan Twp, Hunterdon Co page 276 in the 1900 census. Elizabeth is 76 and was born Sept 1823.

In the 1870 census Baptistown, Hunterdon Co, NJ, Elizabeth is living with a George Snyder age 9 and her father Richard Godown age 88. Elizabeth has the occupation recorded as dressmaker with a personal property value of $200. r

child 108 viii. Rebecca Godown was born in Amwell Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey October 12, 1819. Rebecca died July 30, 1853 in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, at 33 years of age. from tombstone Rebecca (age 30) is living with her parents in the 1850 census.

child + 109 ix. Jacob Seabers Godown was born February 10, 1822.
