Thursday, February 18, 1937 Paper: Augusta Chronicle Stellaville, Ga, Feg 17 - J.J. Godowns, 64, years of age, died at his home here this morning after a short illness. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11am at the Ways Baptist church with the Rev T.A. Burrell and the Rev I.S. Caldwell officiating. Mr. Godowns was a prominent farmer of Jefferson Couty and took and active part in both Civic and religious activities. Surviving him are his wife Mrs Eugenia Joiner Godowns; three sons, C.J. Godowns, Stellaville, W.A. Godowns, Augusta, and W.J. Godowns of Macon. four daughters, Mrs L.D. Zeigler, Stellaville, Mrs H.E. Harley, Bamberg, S.C.; Mrs C.T. Woodall of Jacksonville and Miss Louise Godowns, Stellaville; one brother W.H. Godowns, Louisville, Ga; one sister, Mrs Mollie Allen of Swaubsboro, and Sixteen Grandchildren.

He married Eugena Elizabeth Joiner Jefferson Co, GA, December 23, 1896. Eugena was born Washington Co, GA March 10, 1876. Eugena(1511) was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Joiner and Elizabeth Joiner. Wednesday, June 1, 1955 Paper: Augusta Chronicle Stellaville GA - May 31 - Mrs Eugenta Joiner Godowns, 79, widow of James Jackson Godowns died in University Hospital in Augusta at 7:45 pm today. Funeral services will be conducted at Ways Baptist church, Stellaville, Wednesday at 4pm with the Rev R.J. Robinson officiating. The body will be at the home of Mrs C.J. Godowns at Stellaville until the hour of the services. Mrs Godowns, a lifelong resident of Stellaville, was a member of Ways Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs Leland Zeigler of Stellaville, Mrs Horace Harley of Orangeburg, S.C. and Mrs John Newton of Waynesboro; two sons Willis A Godowns of Augusta and Waitus J Godowns of Macon; Three sisters Mrs May Wilson of Louisville, Mrs Lizzie Davis of Bartow and Mrs Annie Bel Duggins of Wadley; two brothers, Eulie Joiner of Augusta and Marcus Joiner of Louiville 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

In the 1910 census 77 District, Jefferson Co Georgia page 69, James (age 36) is recorded with his wife Eugena (age 30), Clinton (age 11), Willis (age 9), Bessie (age 7), Annie May (age 5), Waitus (age 3), and Ruby (age 2). They have been married for 13 years and have had 6 children. James is recorded as a general farmer and all births are Georgia.

In the 1920 census Stellaville, Jefferson Co Georgia page 53, James (age 46) is recorded with his wife Genie (age 39), Willis (age 19), Bessie (age 17), Waitus (age 14), Ruby (age 12), Tarver (age 10), and Louise (age 8). James is recorded as a farmer and all births are Georgia.

In the 1930 census Stellaville, Jefferson Co Georgia page 49, James (age 56) is recorded with his wife Jennie (age 53) and daughter Louise (age 17). James was first married at age 38 and he is farmer.

James Jackson Godowns and Eugena Elizabeth Joiner had the following children:

child 309 iv. Annie Mae Godowns was born in Stellaville, Jefferson Co, GA September 19, 1903. Annie died October 28, 1959 in Stellaville, Jefferson Co, GA, at 56 years of age. Buried at the Ways Baptish Church in Stellaville Ga. She married David Leland Zeigler in Hephzibah, Ga, November 03, 1918.

David was born in Springfield, SC September 17, 1898. other research has David's birth year as 1898 and the SSDI has his birth year as 1899. I have used 1899 here. David was the son of Manly Monroe Zeigler and Idella Davis Austin.

David died April 05, 1969 in Stellaville, Jefferson Co, GA, at 70 years of age. He is buried in Ways Baptist Church cemetary (See David Leland Zeigler for the continuation of this line.)

Monday, January 27, 1936 Paper: Augusta Chronicle Tarver Hill Godowns, 24, died yesterday morning at 8:30 o'clock at the home of his brother, Willis Godowns, 1826 Jenkins street. He had been ill only a few days. Funeral services will be conducted this morning at 11 o'clock at the Ways Baptist church, Stellaville Ga., with the Rev Schwall and the Rev Burrell officiating. Interment will follow in the Stellaville cemetery. He is survived by his parents, Mr and Mrs J.J. Godowns of Stellaville, three brothers, Clinton Godowns, Wrens, Ga, Willis Godowns, Augusta, and Waitus Godowns, Macon, and four sisters, Mrs C.T. Wooddall, Atlanta, Mrs Leland Zeigler, Stellaville, Mrs H.E Harley, Bamberg, S.C. and Miss Louise Godowns, Stellaville.

In the 1930 census Augusta, Richmond Co Georgia page , Tarves (age 20) is recorded as a shoe store clerk. He is recorded with his brother Willis.
