13. James Samuel² Hoffert (Samuel¹) was born in Bethlehem, Northampton Co, PA March 11, 1844. James died September 15, 1894 in Bethlehem, Northampton Co, PA, at 50 years of age.

He married Mary Ann Murry in Northampton Co., Pa, about 1870. Mary was born in Pennsylvania January 1846. In the 1880 census 1st Ward, South Bethlehem, Northampton, Pennsylvania page 280, James (age 37) is living with his wife Mary (age 35), Ellen (age 8), William (age 5) and Mary (age 2). James is noted as being a laborer and both parents were born in PA.

In the 1890 census Wood street, Sourth Bethlehem Northamption Co PA, James (age 46) is recorded with Mary (age 44), Ellen (age 19), William (age 15), Mary (age 12), Jarry (age 10), Florence (age 8), John (age 4), Alice (age 2), and Warren (age 1).

James Samuel Hoffert and Mary Ann Murry had the following children:

14 i. Ellen L³ Hoffert⁽²⁶⁷⁹⁾ was born in Pennsylvania June 1871. She married William Henry Godown in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, 1894. William was born in Hunterdon Co, New Jersey July 16, 1873. The 1900 census (page 345a) lists William's birth day as July 1874.

The 1920 census list his place of birth as Penn. William⁽²⁶⁸⁰⁾ was the son of Charles Robins Godown and Alice Agnes Pursell.

William died September 24, 1948 in Bethlehem Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ, at 75 years of age. (See William Henry Godown for the continuation of this line.) In the 1900 Census (page 345a), Ellen is listed as having 4 children, all alive, she can read and write, and both her and her parents were born in Penn.

15 ii. William T Hoffert⁽²⁶⁸¹⁾ was born in Pennsylvania 1875.

16 iii. Mary J Hoffert was born in Northampton Co., Pa 1878.

17 iv. Maimie J Hoffert was born in Northampton Co., Pa 1878.

18 v. Henry Joseph Hoffert was born in Bethlehem, Northampton Co, PA July 3, 1880. Henry died July 11, 1964 at 84 years of age. He married Lillian Voight.

19 vi. Florence T Hoffert was born in Bethlehem, Northampton Co, PA 1882.

20 vii. Theresa Hoffert was born in Northampton Co., Pa October 1882.

21 viii. John E Hoffert was born in Bethlehem, Northampton Co, PA July 1886.

22 ix. Alice Hoffert was born in Bethlehem, Northampton Co, PA March 1889.

23 x. Warren E Hoffert⁽²⁶⁸²⁾ was born in Bethlehem, Northampton Co, PA April 1889. In the 1900 census 1163 Mechanic street, Lower Saucon Twp, Northampton Co, PA page 210, Warren (age 11) is found living with her grandfather and grandmother Peter (age 62) and Emeline (age 58) Weaver. Also in the household is Peter' Son-in-law James Duff (age 24) and daughter Ellen Duff (age 23) and granddaughter Florence Duff (age 5).
