4. John Walter2 Knapp (Thomas K1)(3019) was born in Rock Island Co, Illinois April 5, 1863. John died October 27, 1931 in Pilot Bluff, MO, at 68 years of age.

He married Sallie A Terrill February 18, 1884. Sallie was born in Indiana December 1863. In the 1900 census Redfield, Union Twp, Dallas Co Iowa page 199, John (age 36) is recorded with his wife Sallie (age 35), Walter (age 15), Thomas (age 13), and Mable (age 9). John is a stock dealer. They have been married for 16 years and have had 4 children with 3 living at the time of the census.

In the 1910 census Redfield, Union Twp, Dallas Co Iowa page 219, J.W. (age 47) is recorded with his wife S.A (age 46), Ford (age 25), Harry (age 10), son-in-law Arthur Stewart (age 27), Mable (age 20) and Kenneth (age 2). John is a stock buyer in the stockyards. They have been married for 26 years and have had 6 children with 4 living at the time of the census.

In the 1920 census Redfield, Union Twp, Dallas Co Iowa page 4, John (age 56) is recorded with his wife Sallie (age 55), and Harry (age 19). John is a general stock buyer.

Obituary: JOHN WALTER KNAPP, son of Thomas and Amanda KNAPP, was born April 5, 1863, in Rock Island County, Illinois. He departed this life Oct. 27, 1931, at Pilot Bluff, Mo., at the age of 68 years, 8 months and 22 days. On Feb. 18, 1884, he was united in marriage to SALLIE A. TERRILL. To this union were born six children, three of whom have preceded him in death, Lander, in infancy, Wilma Louise in 1909 and Mable in 1928. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and three sons, Ford of Stuart, Floyd of Redfield, and Harry of Mount Ayr. Besides his immediate family he also leaves seven grand- children, Ellis, Kenneth, Opal, Louise, Gerald, Bonnie, and Joyce; three half sisters, Mrs. Dora Murray and Mrs. Ida Godown of Broken Bow, Nebr. Mrs. Ola Piper of Polk, Nebr., two half brothers, Charley Knapp and Byron Knapp of Benedict, Nebr.; other relatives and many friends. He spent most of his life in Redfield, Iowa, and surrounding counties. Mr. Knapp was an outstanding example of friendliness, the kind that causes loneliness when the circel of friendship is broken by death. Attesting to this virtue of his was the immense throng attending the funeral service, probably as large a throng as ever was seen at a Redfield service. The funeral was held at the Christian Church Friday afternoon at 2:00, Rev. J.W. Johnson officiating. Interment was at East Linn Cemetery where the K. of P. Lodge had charge of the service.

John Walter Knapp and Sallie A Terrill had the following children:

child 13 ii. Thomas Floyd Knapp was born in Dallas Co, Iowa April 1887.

child 14 iii. Lander Knapp was born in Dallas Co, Iowa about 1888. Lander died about 1889 in Dallas Co, Iowa.

child 15 iv. Mable M Knapp was born in Dallas Co, Iowa July 1890. Mable died 1928 at 37 years of age. She married Arthur Stewart in Dallas Co, Iowa, 1906. Arthur was born Iowa 1893. (See Arthur Stewart for the continuation of this line.)

child 16 v. Harry Knapp was born in Redfield, Union Twp, Dallas Co IA 1901.

child 17 vi. Wilma Louise Knapp was born in Redfield, Union Twp, Dallas Co IA about 1903. Wilma died 1909 in Redfield, Union Twp, Dallas Co IA, at 6 years of age.
